Alcoholics Anonymous - A Seven Part Series Of The Beginning 1939

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

I was looking through some Al-Anon and Alcoholics Anonymous sites this morning and found the following page; The Elrick B. Davis Articles From The Cleveland Plain Dealer October - November 1939.

I thought this was pretty interesting; a series of articles written by the Plain Dealer  months after Alcoholics Anonymous was born born in Cleveland. The articles were written as 7 part series.

It is interesting to see the style of writing from this time period. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an alcoholic referred to as a “rummie”. I also don’t think I’ve heard of an alcoholic in recovery refer to themselves as “cured”. In today’s Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, you won’t see “Religion” as the articles state but these are Spiritual programs.

Regardless, these were pretty interesting articles that allow you to take a step back to the beginning of the recovery movement that has helped countless numbers of alcoholics, addicts and thoses who love them.

Do you have a topic you would liked discussed on Loving An Alcoholic? Would you like to have your experience and words of encouragement posted?

Send me your thoughts: support@lovinganalcoholic.com

As I will leave each post; If you, or someone you know, loves an alcoholic or addict, I would encourage you to find a local Al-Anon 12 step meeting to attend. This is your first step towards healing.
